Culpeper says "It helps to expectorate the phlegm and to raise the inposthumed pleurisy. As a gargle, it helps the swelling of the throat"

Nettle is a natural anti-histamine and an excellent anti-inflammatory, so Culpeper is once again correct.

It has proven to significantly reduce arthritis pain and reduce excessive bleeding, especially after surgery.

A Feburary 2004 study showed that Nettle is one of the most antioxidant rich flavonoids there is thereby reducing free radical damage to the skin and resulting in anti-aging effects.

Nettle seeds are used as an adaptogen that supports the adrenal glands and endocrine system. They will give an energy boost and uplift the mood. A Feb 2009 study also concluded that Nettle seed has a protective effect of the liver, probably acting by promoting the antioxidative defense systems.

A December 2012 paper found that with the current information, it is evident that U.dioica has pharmacological functions including anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antiandrogenic, antihyperglycemia, anti-hyperlipidemia, antiviral and anticancer activities, among others. This article emphasizes the potential of U. dioica to be employed in new therapeutic drugs and provide the basis for future research on the application of transitional medicinal plants.
